Yesterday we visited the secondary school and were amazed at how quickly the next classroom is being built! Look at the pictures and think that 1 week ago there was 1 almost finished classroom and and grass next to it!

27th July 2006

So much has happened in the last month! The classroom at Kyetume Secondary school is almost finished, we also delivered loads of desks, some cupboards, teachers desks and chairs to the secondary school.
This week Love in Action has expanded by one staff member! We are pleased to let you know that Noah Mayiga has joined us as an Pastoral Extension Worker. Noah has a wealth of experience in Pastoral work and his responsibilities will be to work with Penny in the various schools, we are hoping that they will be able to set up Scripture Unions in the schools, and to provide pastoral care to the Teachers and children. Additionally he will be providing counselling and advice in our soon to open resource centre. He will also be able to build our links with local churches.

Some of you will have met Noah when he was in the UK in 2002/3 completing the Ichthus Radical Network training course when he also spent an 'eye opening' week at the Kingsland Stanway Holiday Club week!

We are sure that Noah's role will expand over the next few months and we are very pleased to have him work with us. Noah's wages are being provided by Gateway Church, Leyton and we thank them so much for this.

Additionally yesterday we ordered 2 more classrooms for the Secondary School, work has already started!

The kitchen at Bright Stars is now finished and in use, the toilets at the Secondary School are now completed and work has started on the first classroom for the Secondary School.

These pictures show the cooker and the new kitchen building at the Primary School.

This is the new building at the Secondary School.

There are more pictures of the building here.

3rd May

Building has started again at Bright Stars School, this time we are providing a kitchen and food store. The cost of this building this has been provided by Philip & Margot from the USA, they were over here last year and on their return they designed, printed and sold a calendar on behalf of Love in Action. So a big thank you to them and all those who bought the calendar!

24th April

On Saturday we were invited to the wedding of Samuel's Grandparents (Samuel is Director of Kyetume Parents Senior Secondary School). His grandmother is 80 and grandfather 90! It was a fun day with all the trimmings of a traditional wedding!

20th April

Today I met with Angel (the builder) and placed an order for a kitchen for Bright Stars School, and even more exciting we discussed the starting of work at Kyetume Parents Senior Secondary School. The first phase is going to comprise Toilets, and 1 classroom with a headmasters office and small library. This work is going to cost around 8million shillings (£2500). We would have liked to have built the rest of this building which will have 1 more classroom attached, but our policy is not to build until we have the funds available. Each Classroom Costs about £1800. Phase 2 will be 2 more classrooms and finally Phase 3 is a laboratory and large library.

19th April

The Directors of Love in Action (a grand title for Susan, Beryl & Alan) met yesterday and we made a number of exciting decisions which will be revealed over the next few weeks - but I can tell you that Angel is going to start building again - but where and what? You will have to keep watching this web site!

Love in Action is expanding, we had now decided to open a 'Love In Action Resource Centre' in the unit next door to the Internet Cafe. We have so many books, tapes and teaching materials that it seemed a shame to keep them at home when we could share them with others. So Rebecca has agreed to manage the centre which will include an office for Love in Action and a counselling room for Beryl.

Penny (the trainee social worker) will be based there rather than from our home. We will also be offering Luganda for Expats courses and well who knows what else will happen in there!!! We are really excited.

In another development while we were in Queen Elizabeth National Park recently we met a couple from the UK who are advisors to the Archbishop of Uganda, This has led to an invitation for Noah & Rebecca to join an Alpha, Train the Trainers course, in Kampala on Friday and Saturday this week. We then hope to be able to encourage Pastors here in Masaka to investigate and run Alpha courses. Please pray for them.

7th March 2006

Today was another first for Love in Action. Last year a number of candidates from Kyetume Parents Secondary School sat their O Level Exams in Masaka and Love in Action provided their accommodation and food for the 6 week period. The Head Boy from the school Karisa Francis did really well and passed at Grade 2. This was exceptional especially when considering the quality of the school he was attending. We we arrived back here in Uganda we found that he was unable to continue his education due to lack of funds so Love in Action has taken a step of faith and agreed to fund his A Level Studies at Masaka Secondary School. This is a very good Government School here in town, but it is not free! We are also funding his accommodation and food for the 2 year period of his studies. The total cost will be around £500 per year or £40 per month. Karisa will work at the Internet Cafe in the evenings.

21st October

Things have really been moving here in the last 2 weeks. The builder once again is Angel this time he has a new team of builders working with him. The cost of the new block has been met by Kingsland Church, Colchester but we are still looking for people to help supply the furniture need to equip the rooms.  Click on any photo for a better view.
